Things to Do in Paris 20th Arrondissement
Paris Holiday Ideas - Some of the best Asian Paris restaurants can be found in the 20th arrondissement on Rue de Belleville as well as an Asian street market.
The 20th contains the cosmopolitan districts of Ménilmontant and Belleville which have welcomed many successive waves of immigration since the middle of the 19th century.
Today, Belleville is home to the second largest Chinatown in Paris, and a wonderful Jewish community in this district.
The area is multiethnic with people from different nationalities and cultures.
Artistic life is vibrant in this district and each year in May, an open house week-end lets people discover the cultural workshops.
The Belleville district is home to Edith Piaf, a famous French singer and hosts a Paris museum dedicated to the artist with displays of souvenirs.
The 20th is also internationally known for the Père Lachaise Cemetery where one can find the burials of many famous composers such as Chopin and Rossini, writers including Oscar Wilde and Marcel Proust, painters Pissarro, Jacques-Louis David and others and even rock singer Jim Morrison.

In 1804, the Père Lachaise Cemetery was at that time the territory of the commune Charonne.
In the 20th Paris arrondissement is the Quartier de Charonne, the 80th quarter of Paris, a former village which was annexed to the city of Paris in 1860 by Napoleon III.
A piece of countryside in Paris, the
village was devoted to vegetable farming.
