Paris Sightseeing - In the 10th arrondissement are two of Paris's six main railway stations, the Gare du Nord Paris and the Gare de l'Est built during the 19th century, as well as the Saint Martin Canal.

The two train termini are among the busiest in Europe. If you are planning to do some daytrips and sightseeing, make sure you go to the correct train station to catch your ride.

Gare du Nord Paris is the busiest railway station in Europe and handles trains to Northern France, as well as to various international destinations such as Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and United Kingdom.

The station complex was designed by French architect Jacques Hittorff and built between 1861 and 1864 and is one of the interesting things to see in Paris.

Gare de l'Est is not far from Gare du Nord and handles trains heading to the north-eastern parts of Paris, Épernay, Reims, Strasbourg, Colmar, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria and Germany.

The 10th arrondissement also contains a large portion of the Canal Saint-Martin, which in 18th century Paris was partly an industrial center but now offers some unique things to see in Paris.

There are many boat cruises to take you through the canals and locks for Paris sightseeing. 

The streets lining the canal have become car-free for the latter half of the day each Saturday, and all day on Sundays and is a great district for your cycling and strolling pleasure, as well as for roller-blading.

Lately the Canal Saint-Martin area has been enjoying the benefits of a booming nightlife scene due to the hip Paris restaurants and cafés which line its banks.

Other hot spots to visit on your Paris vacations are the historic Place de la République in the far south of the 10th arrondissement, with its many bars, restaurants and cafés, and Porte Saint Denis.

The Boulevard de Strasbourg found between Place de la République and Gare de l'Est is known for its wholesale coiffure or hairdressing trade, with dozens of shops selling hairdressing equipment and supplies.

Many African hairdressers of Paris have set up shop right alongside their suppliers, and if you're interested you can have your hair done up in dreadlocks, pearly braids or another African style and have your manicure done too.
