Another wonderful park is Parc des Buttes Chaumont, located on a hill in the north end of the city.

Buttes-Chaumont is a popular city escape for nature lovers who want to spend hours wandering around this lush green paradise. This is the largest, hilliest and least touristy park in Paris.

The most prominent feature is the Belvedere of Sybil, which sits atop a 30 meter rocky peak at the top of an island partially surrounded by a lake.

The belvedere, added to the park in 1869, is a Corinthian-style monument, modeled after the ancient Roman temple of Sybil in Tivoli, Italy.

A 63 meter long suspension bridge, renovated in 2009, crosses the lake and allows access to the island. A 22 meter high bridge, known as the "suicide bridge", allows access to the belvedere from the south side of the park.

At Buttes-Chaumont you still find a real Parisian atmosphere, far from the meddling international crowds of the city's centre. Climb to the top of the hill and overlook the north of Paris with the Montmartre hill right in front of you.
